Bamboo India is a start-up that produces eco-friendly products made from bamboo, such as toothbrushes, straws, speakers, and pens. They have manufactured over 40 lakh bamboo toothbrushes and distributed them in 18 different countries across the globe, including 2050 cities in India. Their products can be purchased at Bamboo India’s own website and retailers like Flipkart, Amazon, etc. They are also available in selected retail stores. Bamboo India produces 50 thousand brushes every day. The company sought ₹80 lakh investment in exchange for 4% of equity.
The founders shared that they started this venture in 2015 and launched customized bamboo brushes. Their bamboo brush sells for ₹45 and costs ₹15 to make, giving them ₹30 in margin per brush. They closed FY20-21 at 2.8 crores, and this year so far, they have done 2.2 crores until October, with the projection to close FY 21-22 at ₹4 crores. The company is completely bootstrapped.
Bamboo India Shark Tank Negotiations:
Aman gives the first offer of ₹20 lakh in equity for 4% of the company and the rest as debt. Namita bows out after hearing Aman’s offer, citing that he is a better fit for the company. Peyush offers ₹80 lakh for 20% of the company. Anupam and Ashneer came together for the offer and give ₹40 lakh for 8% of the company and the rest as debt. Aman and Peyush join hands to give the offer of ₹80 lakh for 20%.
Bamboo India founders take a moment to think and come back to the counter at ₹50 lakh for 3%, and the rest as debt. Anupam counters with ₹50 lakh for 6%, and the rest as debt. Peyush revises his offer to ₹50 lakh for 5%, and the rest as debt. Ashneer revised their offer to ₹50 lakh for 4%, and Aman matched their offer. Ashneer offers 3.5% for ₹50 lakh, and the rest as debt, which the company accepts.

Ashwani Shinde & Yogesh Shinde founded Bamboo India. They were both born and brought up in Pune. Yogesh has a post-graduation in computer management and has worked in the IT department, climbing the ladder to the country head position. He also spent 5 years in Germany and has won several awards in creativity. They launched their company in 2015 and were the first to enter the market with a bamboo toothbrush. Ashwani takes care of all the administrative work and online fulfillment.
How is Bamboo India doing after Shark Tank India?
Our research on the company revealed that their Shark Tank India deal with Anupam and Ashneer did not close after the show. Despite that setback, the company is still thriving two years after the episode aired. As of November 2023, they have over 50 thousand Instagram followers, and they have entered the gifting segment with a great presence as a brand in the toothbrush market.
