Aas Vidyalaya is an online educational platform in India dedicated to providing education to children who cannot attend regular schools. Founded by Vikas Kakwani and Leena Kakwani, this innovative education initiative made its pitch on Shark Tank India. During their appearance, the founders requested ₹1.5 crores in exchange for a 3% equity stake in their startup, valuing it at ₹50 crores. They highlighted their platform’s substantial user base, boasting over 50,000 students and 500 teachers, and explained their revenue streams through advertisements and donations.
They started with B2C but then moved to corporations. They are in contract with 5 companies which pay them because they send students to them. The company focuses more on the middle class in this company. They are focusing on Education for grades 6-10 students and plan to stay in this segment.
The company started in 2017, and the founders, with the help of friends and family, have invested around ₹1.5 Crores in this company. They raised a seed round of ₹50 Lakh from Nidhi in exchange for 7% of the company. Currently, founders hold 70% equity in the company, with the rest given to friends and family. They made ₹70 Lakh in FY20-21, and projections for FY21-22 are at 1.5 crores. The following year projections are at ₹5 Crores.

Aman says that he doesn’t understand the business model in terms of financial stability, so he goes out of the deal. Anupam says that private funding is not a way to go for this company and they should move towards the Grants and public funding to raise money so he goes out of the deal as well. Peyush, Namita, and Ashneer came together to offer the company ₹1.5 Crores for 15% of the company. The company counters at 7.5%, which sharks reject and say it’s going to be non-negotiable. After discussing between themselves, the founders accepted the deal, and this was one of the highest investments in Shark Tank India.
Who are Aas Vidyalaya founders?
Vikas Kakwani and Leena Kakwani founded Aas Vidyalaya. Vikas was born in old Meruth city to parents who had no education. He has done Engineering from IIT Roorkee and went to IIM Lucknow after. He worked in sales and marketing in his past experience. Leena was born and brought up in Kanpur and studied child psychology.
How is Aas Vidyalaya doing after Shark Tank India?
Our research on the company revealed that their Shark Tank India deal did not close after the show, but despite that, the company is still in business. As of November 2023, they are affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and State education boards of UP, MP, Rajasthan, Bihar, Odisha, and Jharkhand. Their app has over 300k downloads on the Google Play Store with an overall rating of 4.1.
