As we know all the businesses which come on the Shark Tank India come with a dream of appearing on the show and explosive expansion after the show. While that is true and proven. More often than not that push in sales in temporary and the hype fades away slowly.
What we have also found during research specifically for the first season was many companies severely underestimated the kind of response they would get after their appearance on the show therefore due to lack of preparation, weren’t able to capitalize on the opportunity. Many founders also reported that their sites crashed multiple times right after the show due to explosive amount of traffic they got due to their exposure nationwide.
While there are many success stories of Shark Tank India, In this article we are focusing on the companies which went out of business since their appearance on the show. Sippline
Sippline made waves when they appeared on Shark Tank India and were one of the most talked about products due to the comments of Sharks. Ashneer went as far as to call it the most useless product. Other Sharks went out due to not seeing a need or demand for this product in the market. Even after all the marketing, the company went out of business in 2023 and the founder shared that he will be filing a defamation case against Ashneer for his remarks on the product.
Peeschute
Peeschute is a solution which was created to address the ongoing issue of inadequate and unclean restrooms in places like bus and train stations. It’s a compact, disposable urine bag that transforms human urine into a solid form. Made of paper, it features a unisex funnel that opens when the sides are pressed, instantly solidifying the urine.
The company secured a deal with Shark Aman Gupta but that deal was never closed after the show. The company went out of business in early 2024.
Astrix
A company which appeared in Season 1 with its advanced door-locking system. They shared that after their appearance, the company won the VISHWAKARMA AWARD but they still did not last long in the consumer market. The company is currently out of business at least from their D2C business but their sales team can still be reached through their website.
Thea and Sid
Thea and Sid appeared on Episode 32 of Season 1. The company provided complete proposal solutions. Even though it was a unique idea, turns out it wasn’t sustainable and the company went out of business in 2023.
Elcare
This company’s mission was to provide elder care to growing population of elders in India. Sharks suggested them to change up their model as their model was not sustainable for growth and turns out they were right. The company went out of business in early 2024.
Hecoll
Hecoll appeared in Episode 6, and the company made materials which protected people from harmful pollution & UV rays. The sharks decided not to invest in the business and suggested the founder bring in another co-founder to help scale. Turns out, they made a good judgement there as the company is out of business already and the founder have moved on to different venture.
La Kheer Deli
La Kheer Deli tried to commercialize a very popular dessert Kheer in 9 different flavours. The startup appeared on Shark Tank India Season 1 Episode 7. Most sharks thought this would be very difficult to scale and therefore decided not to invest. The company went out of business shortly after the show and the founders have moved on to different ventures.
Morriko Pure Foods
This company specializes in fruit-based bars, rolls, slices and powders. The sharks except for Namita were all interested in the company but they couldn’t come to terms with the ₹33 Crore valuation the founders were asking. The sharks offered a four crore valuation altogether, but the founders declined. The company got a good exposure after the show but went out of business in 2023. The founders are now focusing just on their wholesale business and are not working on D2C side anymore.
Julaa Automation
Julaa Automation became the first company to launch their product at Shark Tank India. The sharks thought that the pricing of the product was way too steep for the Indian market. The company was still pre-revenue at the time of their pitch and the founders took the feedback and tried bringing the cost down. Unfortunately, As of 2024, the product has still not hit the market and the company is out of business.
Poo de Cologne
The company appeared in Season 1 Episode 22. They were selling a toiled spray which can be used before going to the toilet to combat bad odour. The sharks had a good laugh about it but decided not to invest as they felt this would not work in India. The company went out of business in 2024.
VivaLyf Innovations
VivaLyf Innovations, a Hyderabad-based startup featured in Season 1 Episode 8 of Shark Tank India, is dedicated to addressing complex healthcare issues through the integration of science and technology. They actually got a deal from Peyush and Anupam but the company went out of business.
Motion Breeze
Motion Breeze Appered on Episode 8 of shark tank India Season 1. Their designed bike “Breeze” has a top speed of 180 km/h and goes from 0-100 in just 6 seconds. The company agreed on a deal with Ashneer grover on the show but that deal did not close after the episode aired. The company went out of business in early 2023 and its founders have moved on to other ventures.
Watt Technovations
This company appeared on Episode 27 and they are Cov-tech ventilation system manufacturer. This innovation was particularly valuable during the COVID-19 pandemic, addressing the discomfort and perspiration experienced by doctors and healthcare workers using PPE kits
The founder sparked a conversation by asking for only ₹101 in exchange of 2% equity in the company. He secured a deal from Namita and Anupam which never closed after the show. The company went out of business in 2023.
Gold Life Solutions
Gold Life Solutions, a Mumbai-based startup, made its pitch on Shark Tank India Season 1 Episode 28, led by founder Sharad Ashani. The startup manufactures anti-suicidal ceiling fan rods designed to prevent hanging suicides.
The company was able to secure a deal with multiple sharks during the show and that deal was even finalized and closed after the show. Despite this success, The company still went out of business in 2022.
Meatyour Eggs
Meatyour is an egg farming company based in Pune, Maharashtra, India. It was established in March 2020 and was featured on Shark Tank India Season 1 Episode 10. They secured a deal from Aman, Anupam and Peyush but our research shows that their deal never closed. The company went out of business in 2023.
Dandera Technologies/OTUA
Otua Electric Bikes is a remarkable three-wheeler vehicle known for its impressive features. Those features include a 165 km range and an impressive carrying capacity of 1 ton, double the industry standard. They made a deal with Shark Ashneer Grover which was never closed post show. The company went out of business in 2023.
Tweek Labs
Tweek Labs is an innovative startup set out on a mission to redefine sports training through smart wearable devices that could capture and analyze athletes’ motion in stunning 3D. Combining the powers of IoT and AI, Tweek Labs’ creations aimed to revolutionize the way athletes honed their skills, offering a range of applications from cricket to golf and tennis
The company secured a deal with Ashneer, Peyush and Anupam but they did not finalize that deal after the show. In Early 2024, The founders confirmed that the company is out of business.
